Cali Shrimp?/ from deep sea

I saw on comcast demand that deep sea doc. and there was a shrimp called a California mantis shrimp...? I believe did any one see that show? nd if so the you know what i talking about....can you get them at all in the hobby?

I'm not sure which sp. you saw in the show but I know liveaquaria occasionally sells the Clown Mantis Shrimp (Odontodactylus scyllarus) but you would need a tank dedicated to it. Eventually I will look into keeping one of these magnificent creatures.

i been trying to find the name i think its hemisquilla ensigura... its the colors that i really like. it said that they can grow to a foot long so yeah he have his own set up but if i could find the one in that show i pay any price and i get him his own tank....lol....im sick like that...lol

Be aware that IF that mantis is from somewhere along the Kahleeforneeya coast, those waters range from about 55 degrees in the northern part of the state to the upper 60's in the south. You'll have to maintain those kinds of temps for the animal to survive. That means a very good chiller...

Yes, it is a subspecies of Hemisquilla ensigura=californiensis. You know, I hope, these are not toys to be playing with Do you like all your fingers ? The real common name is Peacock Mantis Shrimp. There are two mantis shrimp that go by these/this name Odontodactylus scyllarus, the most common one sold.

i really like the 1st picture.

LOL I do like my fingures, but i seem to like the risky fish too... i got the hospital on spped dail along with 911...lol just incase one of the lion fish get me...
