The best type os substrate would be sugar size aragonite sand which will provide an enormous amount of surface area for bacterial colonization. | Sunshine Reefer ![]() | Re: substrate articles/threads? Get a nice fine aragonite sand and you will be fine. Don't bother with the live stuff there is very littly life in it at all. Save the money to help with buying a good amount of quality LR. If you have a reefing friend ask for a cup or two of their sand to seed yours. Otherwise the rock will do it but it takes a bit more time. Do not get crushed coral as it will trap a lot of detrius. Do not use a silicate based sand as it will promote algae issues.
