| Tunicate | The Sea Hare Chronicles.... Have had an on going hair algae problem so I thought I would really fix it with a Sea Hare. Our local LFS's did'nt have any so I go on line and look. Well I find a supplier complete with a picture of what they look like ( I don't recall that I have ever seen any, but I never really paid any attention till now ) and the picture shown, looked to me like they were about the size of my little finger....... So logic tells me humm well the tank is 120 gal with a 150 lbs rock there the size of my little finger so I think maybe three sea hare's ought to do the trick..... So I order them up. The box arrives yesterday morning, I open it and pull out the first bag and to my surprise ( shock ) this thing is gigantic probably the size of a of an extra-large chicken egg. The others are the same size. So we start acclamation after 4 hrs in they go. Well all I can say is these things are awesome. I think they are pretty in their own way especially when they are about their work. My wife has already named them Gertude, Heathcliff, and Rocky. They all took off on the rock ( which is were they need to stay focused ) but this morning they have taken to the glass. I hope they don't get to comfortable there, their dinner is on the rocks. Anyway I'll try to get some pics up and keep you in formed of their exploits. |

| The Wand Geek was here. ;) ![]() | Re: The Sea Hare Chronicles.... Thanks for sharing that. I would have thought they were small too. Make sure you have a plan to place them in another tank when they run out of food in yours. Can you post a pic of one?

| Excellent Guesser :D | Re: The Sea Hare Chronicles.... There are some really cool color variations on those guys. Some of the stores around here started getting black ones with all kinds of branch-like protrusions on them. Uber cool looking.

| Sunshine Reefer ![]() | Re: The Sea Hare Chronicles.... My lfs recently got some in that were easily the size of my hand. They were brought in from one of his divers and were absolutely huge. I am not sure if they all get that big but it is something to know. Like many things they may outgrow the tank particularly if it is a smaller tank.

| Tunicate | Re: The Sea Hare Chronicles.... Well these guys must be a new strain of sea hare because they refuse to touch the hair algae in the tank. All they do is crawl along the glass or cuddle up to each other ( I don't think they are really cuddling though ). So what to do? I am open to any suggestions from the sea hare guru's. Bruce |

| Achilles Tang | Re: The Sea Hare Chronicles.... I just got one on Saturad and he mainly stays on my sand. I haven't seen him on the glass yet and only on the rocks a few times. I think mine is lazy. I don't have any hair algae but read in another thread that they don't like it much...

| Excellent Guesser :D | Re: The Sea Hare Chronicles.... I read somewhere that that will eat it while it is short and help prevent it from coming back, but when it is longer it is tougher for them to eat. Maybe a good old fashioned rock scrubbing to knock it back and then see if they keep up the lawncare?
