Unhappy My Tank Cracked Too!!

Last night about 2 in the morning a large piece of live rock fell and cracked the side of my tank all the way to the bottom (i'm not going to say how. it makes me angry thinking about it). What a mess!! I have been upgrading my tank adding a sump, better lights, skimmer, refinished my canopy making it taller for lights. Everything was going to be complete this week. Errrrrr.

Re: My Tank Cracked Too!!

Yup. The water went through the wall and into the next room. I have a friend that owns his own carpet cleaning business. he's on his way over.

Re: My Tank Cracked Too!!

Thanks guys. Well I didn't have a hole lot (thank god) which my bud is putting in his tank tell i figure out what to do. I'm trying to see the positive part out of this hole experience (i guess) and get to upgrade my tank as well. I like glass so probably another one (thicker this time!) w/ built in overflow boxes. I'm going to go get some quotes today. I think 1/2 inch is pretty thick. what do think?

Re: My Tank Cracked Too!!

1/2" for what size tank?
Most tanks up to 100g 1/2" should be fine; my old 100g was 3/8" glass & was fairly solid. Sorry to hear about the bad luck, if you get a RR you may look into used set-up in your local paper, sometimes you can get an entire set-up @ a super price. Last, if you go new get if you can one with two internal overflows, it helps skim the water surface better.

Re: My Tank Cracked Too!!

Man, that sucks! Something to keep in mind though, that much water has surely gotten to the sub boards and they will weaken. There is a great thread on here somewhere that talks all about it.
