| Torch coral | AGA Overflow Question I noticed on my overflow and in the sump caused by sand comming up thru the vent holes at the bottom of the overflow. What is its purpose and will it be affected if I covered it with a strip of plastic. MINIATUS ![]() |

| Contributing Member ![]() | The holes in the bottom are to suck water from the bottom into the overflow as well as surface skimmed water. IME, they are covered with LR and algae, etc...and never get serviced so they clog in a few months anyway. There is no harm in covering them ![]() |

| Plate Coral ![]() | the purpose of the holes on the bottom of the overflow is to pull water from the bottom of the tank, if you are getting sand into your filtration system blocking these holes off will not hurt anything some people use silicone or plastic strips to cover them.
