Cheato Algae Prblems

Hi all, I think that my cheato algae is not hapy. I have it in my refugium about one month but I still not see they are growing. My lights are a 50/50 and the period is 6 pm-6am. When the algae arrive, it was very very brillant green color, but now its color is geen in some areas and brown in others. Can be this a problem. In the refugium I am using 1" of sand and 2" of miracle mud.
Any suggestion?

Thanks

Re: Cheato Algae Prblems

It may be lack of lighting. Try increasing the photo period and/or getting a stronger light.

It could also be that the bottom part of the chaeto is shaded due to the density of the ball of algae. Try gently pulling the 'clump' apart to allow more light to penetrate the lower parts. Another good thing to do is to 'swish' teh ball of chaeto to clean off any settled ditritus on it.

Low Iron would make the entire clump of algae turn light green so I don't think that is an issue.

Re: Cheato Algae Prblems

Since Cheato grows in such a dense ball I rotate mine once a week because I have heard of the lower portion suffering from less than adequate light and dieing off. When I rotate mine I add a filter sock to the output (it's a HOB system that gravity feeds into the display tank) so that the loose particles don't get sucked back into the main tank. Then I just remove the sock after about 10minutes and rinse it clean and let it dry. This works very good for My setup! Also I have a dedicated fuge light that I rub 24/7 and the cheato LOVES it!!

They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend and they are. They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled, their work is done. The prayer you sent up has been answered and now it is time to move on.
