| Bryozoan | Setting Up QT I recently got a awful plague of ich in my 25 gallon hopsital tank. I tore it down today and am thinking of trying to run it in a compeltly different way. I took out all the crushed coral previously in it along with my two pieces of live rock. I put new freshwater in and am allowing my skimmer to run overnight before adding salt tomorrow. With this new bare bones stystem ( Emperor 280 filter, heater, and airstone) will I be able to have a cycle without any biological filtration? How exactly should I run this tank and can someone explain the differenc of not having any biological fiiltration in the tank? Info on how I should cycle it tomorrow and keep it maintained would be really helpful! Thanks |

| Tridacna maxima ![]() | Re: Setting Up QT Doesn't the Emperor have a bio wheel? If so, that is biological filtration. I personally would leave freshwater in it for at least a month (to make sure you get rid of the ich).

| Excellent Guesser :D | Re: Setting Up QT I read somewhere that you just need to run it fish free for 3 or 4 weeks and the parasite will die off. Ich can't live without a fish host. The FW would just be a bit of overkill. Hopefully someone more experienced and well read will chime in with more info.

| Scopas Tang | Re: Setting Up QT Most set up a quarantine tank as a temporary item which can be drained and allowed to remain dry inbetween uses as a means to prevent the QT from maintaining a disease/parasite that may have been introduced to the QT. Hopefully, my quarantine page will be of use to you. Chuck
