Hydor Koralia reviews wanted.

hey everyone. i am looking at either getting a couple more MJ mods or maybe a couple hydor koralia ph. its been a little while and was wondering for those who have had the hydor koralia powerheads how are they working out? any issues or things you notice that might be of concern, clogging easy, ball joint gets loose, magnet/suction cups holding up? anything else? compared to the MJ mods what are the pro's and con's, if you know?
thanks for any input, i plan on getting a couple of them this week. one thing though, i dont want to sound *%&#$% but i really only want to hear for those that have had them for at least 3 months or so, just because most everything works good for the first couple months. unless of course you had issues before that, i just dont need to hear "they work great but its only been in operation for a couple weeks". the MJ mods i know hold up to running on a wavemaker, at least mine work the same as the day hooked them up a year ago. dont know about how the koralia's fair operating under similar conditions. can anyone enlighten me ?

Re: Hydor Koralia reviews wanted.

from what i was told, its a mock up of a tunze.... but not a tunze......

look like they might have some power behind em....

if your looking for a wave maker, why not get the tunze set up with controler... and just be done with it?

Easier said than done. Wouldn't that run him somewhere around 600-700 dollars? Quite a bit more expensive than the other alternatives.

You could look into doing a simple stopper mod on the hydors to get them to run safely on the wavemaker.

Re: Hydor Koralia reviews wanted.

Please share your 'stopper mod' with me. I have two korallia #3's on a wave maker for one month. Sometimes they make a clicking sound for 1-2 seconds. I just plan on replacing them if/when they fail but a 'stopper mod' would be nice....

Re: Hydor Koralia reviews wanted.

ahhh ic they are not wavemaker friendly. i have been enlightend

i have tunzes already but they are to big and bulky for my taste on this system. even though they have been on it for a year already. i have one 900 ocean flo mod too, wish i got more when they were still selling them. i think i can get away with 4x 900 MJ mods. i have a aqua jr controller with 2x DC8's so no worries, just want to clear it up some for better viewing and swimming room for my fishes.

so if aside from if the korallia's had the stopper for a wavemaker how do you guys like them other wise?

Re: Hydor Koralia reviews wanted.

My two #3 are very nice. The flow is broad yet strong and the ability to swivel it in different directions is extremely convenient. Even if mine don't hold up (we'll see) to the wavemaker's on/off cycles, I would purchase them again. I have several maxijets in my storage trunk that will likely never see water again...

Re: Hydor Koralia reviews wanted.

Mods for korallias?? My #3 already has a lot of flow and a wide spread, what would I want a mod for??

I had the Oceanflo.com mod for both my maxijet 1200 and 900. The 1200 kits were WAY too strong for my 4' tank (with sand bed) and I sold both kits. The oceanflo kit for the 900 worked great on my wave timer while I used it. All clicked for 1-2 seconds just as my korallia does.

I have only had the korallia's for one month. They cycle on/off frequently on my wave timer but so far are still working fine.

Are you implying that Korallia's are inferior?? I disagree completely. IMO, Korallia powerheads are a very good product.
Have you ever tried them?

Re: Hydor Koralia reviews wanted.

I have 2 K4 In a 90, but I have only had them running for about 2 weeks now. I must they say they are really easy to adjust and redirect flow to another direction If needed. Im happy so far.

Re: Hydor Koralia reviews wanted.

humm my last reply did not post.
thanks the info. everyone.

woodstock the mods i am thinking about is the stopper for use with a wavemaker, but no luck finding them so far.

burning2nd i agree the tunzes are a couple steps up from the MJ's or the koralia's. i have tunzes on it now. but my tank is only 20" high and 18" front to back so they take up alot of room and i have to becareful where they point because they are sit right on about level with the top of my rock. i needed to mod them to point more up. i will be using them on my 300gal when i get it going sometime by the end of the year.
