There is no telling where my reef would be without kalk.... not near as healthy as it is now for sure~

Actually, you if you let everything settle (kalk powder) you can mix as much as you want (kalk powder in RO/DI water). That is why you want to use the clear liquid on top, that is considered saturated kalk.

All of my topoff water is saturated kalk water, with no ill effects.

How big is your FW reservoir ? My only concern with kalk is if you have a large reservoir and a stuck float switch, otherwise kalk away. I actually use 2 teaspoons per gallon but then my calcium demands are VERY high

Thanks for all the info! very small top off container of 2 gal with a kent float so I can sleep at night lol. mixing a batch and will commence after checking current levels for a base line.( yea tho I walk thru the valley of calcium i shall drip drip drip until dry)

I add 2 tsp/Gal... There is always non absorbed Kalk at the bottom, so I know my topoff is super-saturated. I never drip the bottom inch though. I probally use too much, and some gets wasted, but it works for me! Been dripping for about 2 months, and it is amazing how easy it is to keep my levelsin check now.

Well being the cautious one I mixed up for 1 tsp per gal and added 1gal mixed and 1 gal ro/di everythings still alive this am so Ill slowly creep up on it(chicken dance)

I order all my kalk online from MRS. WAGES® Pickling Lime <br>16 oz. (454g) . Make sure to get the plain pickling powder; not the seasoned.

LOL! Funny you should mention that about the skimmate....

Another excellent use of kalk powder is to neutralize the odor in your skimmer cup. Just place 1/2 tsp in the cup after every cleaning!

Trust me. It works!
