Salifert Calcium testkit and silly ?

I must be on the very edge of going to Kalk drip, checking alc/calk 2x a day for 3 weeks and adjusting daily is getting a bit silly, however the question of the day is! That purple powder in the test kit and that ridiculous "spoon" so is it heaped up, rounded, slightly rounded or scraped flat, surely it will impact the results but there is no info in the instructions. How often do you check alc/calc and how big a change do you have?? (I fear the drip, pathetic yeah, but it persists lol)

No need to "fear the drip." It will make life so much easier for ya
AFA as the purple powder , according to Habib it doesn't really matter as it just affect how "rich" the color is. The color shift will occur regardless and will be noticable when it occurs.

Re: Salifert Calcium testkit and silly ?

I use a level spoon. Thanks for the tip Mike. I didn't know the amount was irrelevant.

Steve, just do the drip dude

If you're having trouble KEEPING the calcium up, test your magnesium. Low magnesium may keep the ca low.

voodoo schmoodoo! Use kalkwasser for your topoff. I have never had a problem using it and I have even accidentally topped off a LOT (several gallons) at once several times...

If you want to test out your skills, just mix it up very diluted. If you do it won't scare you or your fish!

People come into our lives for a reason, a season or a lifetime. When you know which one it is, you will know what to do for that person. When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed. They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend and they are. They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled, their work is done. The prayer you sent up has been answered and now it is time to move on.

I always made sure the spoon was level, not rounded...that is also one of the things I like about Lamotte test kits...instead of a spoon of powder, you get a pre-measured tablet. MUCH less chance of error in measuring.

From what I understood is that the powder is a dye, and the amount used would only change the saturation of color. It doesn't affect the reaction that causes the solution to change color.
FWIW I try to use a level spoon. In addition to that I am not a chemist and stumbled (and I do mean stumbled )my way through 8 semesters of chemistry in college so if I wrong don't yell at me
