| Totally stoked dude ![]() | Re: ID please The thing on the side of the clam looks kind of like a tunicate of some type maybe. I'm not sure what type of Acro you have, looks like you are on the right track. Keep in mind it is nearly impossible to id them to the species level just by looking at them. I would say you are pretty close with your guess though. The last photo looks like it could be a monti. It's difficult to tell from the angle the photo is taken from thhough. Would need a shot with the polyps retracted.

| Sea Pen | Re: ID please A colonial tunicate An Acropora species, which no one could tell you a species by a photo alone, even with a skeletal examination, it could be near impossible to species ID. Keep in mind, acropora are capable of interbreeding creating hybrids. Even Charles Veron (of the aims site) has stated that he has all but given up trying to ID acroporas now, if he can't and won't do it, that should be a big hint...lol Last photo, no idea, too small, not close enough of a photo to take a guess. Chuck

| Totally stoked dude ![]() | Re: ID please The important thing with acros is knowing what "type" of acro it is and determining what type of flow and light it will thrive under. "Deepwater" acros a re becoming quite popular and certain types are way more hardy than others. Also knowing what general shape it will grow into will help ya out. Table acros like Efflos, solis etc. may need to be fragged often since it can be difficult to provied appropriate flow through the entire colony once they start growing out and it is quite common to see dead spots develop in the middle. Mille's and the like are typically hardier with their thick coat of sklime and polyps. The list goes on and on...
