| Reefing for Jesus ![]() | My tank water has a slight yellow tinge to it. Nothing to major as I only notice it when I do a water change and the water removed from the main diplay is sitting in a white bucket. What is the cause and how do I cure it?

| Reef Shark ![]() | Re: Water ? Probably just some dissolved organics...nothing serious. Just run some good quality carbon for about a week, You'll be amazed at how much nicer it makes the water look...I always did this for one week per month.

| The CodFather ~ | Re: Water ? *WARNING* the rapid removal of DOCs from your system via carbon may cause your corals to RTN from the increase in illumination.

| The CodFather ~ | Re: Water ? sorry... by now your corals and such have become accustomed to that ''yellow'' water and its ability to cut down on the amount of light that reaches them. If you supply a large amount of carbon, it will quickly remove the disolved organic compounds (DOC) that are making the water yellow. The increase in available light may cause your corals to get a ''sunburn'' resulting in 'bleaching' (the coral polyps expulsion of symbiotic zooalgae) or at the worst loss of tissue ( RTN as steve explained)... if your water is very yellow, I suggest putting a screen filter over the tank for a few days untill your inhabitants become accustomed to the new lighting.

| Totally back ![]() | Re: Water ? FWIW any rapid change in water conditions can seemingly trigger the mysterious RTN of SPS corals. With the corals that you list in your tank RTN isn't really an issue as much as bleaching when it comes to sudden water condition and lighting changes. But again same advise applies.
