| Elegance coral | Re: ;( got home and peppermint shrimp died Common mistake. I had a cleaner shrimp when I first set up my tank that molted in the first couple days... I had also thought it had died. Molting is a good sign that your tank is progressing well. ![]()

When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed. They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend and they are. They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. | Tubeworm | Re: ;( got home and peppermint shrimp died Because crustaceans have an exoskeleton, they can not grow the same way as fish do. They must shed this outer hard shell and grow a new one. This process is called molting. The molt is called ecdysis and is the same as the one experienced by terrestrial insects. When the time comes, usually at night, the shrimp finds a safe, secluded place on the reef and begins its transformation. A little trap door pops open on its back and the animal pulls itself out of its shell. Once free, it is vulnerable for several days until it's new shell hardens. The discarded shell looks like a dead animal, in my opinion, a molting shrimp is a happy, well-fed shrimp. |

| Sunshine Reefer ![]() | Re: ;( got home and peppermint shrimp died I think almost all of us have made that mistake at one time or another. The exoskeleton really looks like the whole shrimp. Kind of freakey in a way.
