Hey guys I just bought a jaw fish. I brought it home and slow drip for 30 min and put it in the tank, and its swimming at the top with its head out of the water, back and forth across the tank. the tank tested out fine, all my other fish are fine.
any ideas as to what is goin on? thks Rob

Re: pearl jaw fish question

they are jumpers, watch out.
i would cover the tank and turn the lights off, give him time to find a hiding spot and start burrowing, which is more likely to happen at night!!!

I agree. They need time to settle down. If you don't have the tank covered, it will be on the carpet in the morning!

Re: pearl jaw fish question

Snelly, you want a bluespot. You know you do. Plus then you will have extra room for something else down the line. The blues are just so gorgeous and full of personality. I have had pearlys before and they are even bigger jumpers than the bluespots and spend even more time hiding IME.

Reefnut, Good luck getting him out of the overflow. Do it soon though. I lost one when it jumped into the overflow on my Aquapod and it got sucked into the pump beacuse I wasn't fast enough.

Re: pearl jaw fish question

#1 yes. Covering the tank is an absolute must when keeping jawfish. They are major jumpers.
#2 I would think you would be fine. I have had 2 in my seahorse tank and they never gave my seahorses or my clown goby the time of day. Absolutely no agression that I have ever seen and the seahorses are perfectly fine. I lost both jawfish to jumps however which is why I answered as I did for #1.
