Re: 55g acrylic tank - planning stages

I recently bought a 32g food-grade brute on a dolly for mixing salt water

Bio-Sea Salt is on its way.

And I have ordered the rest of the little things I still need:

Ebo Jager 150 W heater (I cut a old broomstick to make sure I would have room in my sump for it) so I have decided to not get the new Hydor ETH In-line heaters.

A couple of digital thermometers

CaribSea Aragamax Grand Bahama Sand 30 lb http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_ViewIt...ct~CS0931.html
As an honorary member of the Blue Spot Jaw Fish Club I wanted to get some substrate with some larger rubble and shells for my future BSJF.

A Ebo Jager 100W heater for the salt mixing brute
and a powerhead to stir it up.

Aqua gloves for handling the TBS LR

The TBS LR and LS is my birthday present which If I get it on my birthday is next week.

The heaters, thermometers, and aqua gloves I purchased from RS sponsor Finsdepot

It wont be much longer....

Thanks burning2nd. I had thought of that but then I would want to put them on a controler. That$ an upgrade for another day.

Re: 55g acrylic tank - planning stages

EXsample

one 300 watt heater set at 80degree.....

Np works great for a year or 2 or 3.... when it fails (ither up or down)
up tank over heats quickly you come home to find your reef at 90 degree.......

Or it fails (down) and you find your water at 65degree.....

no controller needed... nice to have but unnessasary

3 100 watt heaters.... also set 2 80DEGREE.

everything works find for a year or 2 or 3.....

one fails (most likely not all 3 at the same time) temp ither goes to 82

light goes on in the brain... "let me check my heaters"
Or
one fails the other 2 work over drive to keep the tank at 80.. and you noticed that your tank is now at 78 insted of 80

again a light goes on let me check my heaters....

cheaper, ez'r, more practical..... IMO

Goldenmean, how did I miss this chronicle! I knew you were planning on getting your LR from TBS, but I never did see this thread! It's looking great! Looks like you are having fun and building an ideal system. Here's to your continued success!

Thats really good to know.
I did not trust that multiple smaller heaters could do the job of a larger heater especially without a controller.

I will definately keep this in mind.
I bet I multi-grade (as opposed to upgrade) in the near future
