More Arrivals

Picked up some shrooms, and a frag of GSP from a freind today. While I was there one of his rocks tipped over and broke a piece off an ACRO. I only have 220 watss VHO on the tank currently but he was going to toss it so he gave it to me. Will it make it? or should I trade it in to the fifh store. Pics to come momentarily.

Go ahead and try it. What do you have to lose. If it is at the top it might have a chance. Not at all sure, but I would try anyway.

definitely agree. but if it starts to turn brown, or the polyps dont open u may want to turn it in to the pet store or to a fellow reefer that has the lighting for it

Sounds like a great idea to me. Then hopefully they can save it.

Re: More Arrivals

Watts per gallon is a meaningless measurement.1 watt of NO fluorescents produces 3x as much light as 1 watt of incandescent.1 watt of VHO or PC produces 2x as much light as NO fluorescent.A 250W HQI produces almost as much light as a 400W mogul base. And what about the height of the tank?Your 220W VHO will grow anything out there if you get it close enough to the tubes. If you put your frag within 10"-12" of the tubes you will be fine.Closer would be better,of course.

Re: More Arrivals

Hey,.. Are we sure that's an acro? Kinda hard to tell, but it looks more like a digi,.. can you get a clearer pic?

I would give it a go,.. why not?

Re: More Arrivals

that looks more like a montipora to me. From what I can tell. It looks to be purple w/brown polyps. Montipora is a much more forgiving sps coral that acropora, so you may can make it with this frag. I would place it as high as you can and see.

What kind of lighting did it come from???

Re: More Arrivals

i agree about the lighting, as long as its up high you really should be ok,
'the light loses its strength the deeper it gets, thats why i disagree with watts/gallon too.
If you have a 150 watt MH in a 40 inch deep tank, u can still grow coral as long as its high enough up towrads the light
