Re: IO salt question

It is exactly the same salt they put in the buckets, nothing special about it.

It is a special packaging that IO uses for store use only so they don't have to contend with a build up of empty buckets. It is aso the only wat the IO packages 200 gallons of salt mix anymore.

Re: IO salt question

Do the packages have complete data on them? Like a regular package does? It's possible that the salt didn't make the grade, but is satisfactory for stores to use. Close dated expiration date, etc.

Re: IO salt question

This is what I've heard,.. though I don't work at a pet store so don't take only my word for it.

I've heard that Companys like IO give salt to fish stores at a majorly discounted price,.. it's the same mix, but a huge discount to encourage the store to use their brand of salt. They do this thinking that people buying fish supplies are likely to use the same brand of salt that the stores do.

I would just buy regular IO,
Whiskey

Re: IO salt question

its as whiskey says....i know this as fact...Red Sea used to give me 1000g mix a month to promote their salt. what this store is doing is taking "free or substantially discounted" salt and selling it. in essense he is breaking the law, he is selling something that says "NOT FOR RESALE"

Re: IO salt question

aye. In a buisness world, shops get all kinds of kick backs. This is theres and as wit said. he's most likley breaking there agreement buy trying to sell it. It's sometimes even as a gentlemens agreement. It is shady to try to sell it and makes me wonder what kind of other shady business he's up to!!!

Re: IO salt question

LMAO. That is a quick way to piss off the Aquarium Systems company reps, although I'm sure he doesn't care.
He might not be getting the mixes for free, as most of the distributors sell the 50 gallon bags for about $1.00 less and the 200 gallon mixes for a few bucks less.
But there is nothing special about the salt, same stuff you get in the pretty bag.

Re: IO salt question

Witt, sorry but I have to disagree... The bags he is speaking of are the bags that come in a 200 gallon box of IO salt. Each individual bag is marked NOT FOR RESALE, the LFS can not legally sell an individual bag however he can sell the entire box. I purchased a box several months ago and still have one bag.
There is nothing special about the salt, it's just packaged differantly.

Re: IO salt question

The original post says the boxes are labeled not for resale. If that is the case then he should not be selling the boxes either. Plus he is charging extra claiming that it is different from the regular salt. That is just plain wrong. Personally I would say something to him an probably not go to that lfs anymore. Someone who is doing that will likely be dishonest in other ways as well.

Sasquatch, are the boxes marked not for resale or the bags inside the boxes maked not for resale or both?

lcstorc, I do agree with you that any LFS that claims that he has a "special mix" just for shops if just plain dishonest.

Re: IO salt question

Ya wanna know what I'd do? I'd call IO and tell them wassup. Sometime another notch in the @$$-h*Ie belt is what some of these people deserve. Catch me on the wrong day and I'd have to put him straight. Just for being dishonest and nothing more. It's people like that we can do without in this world.

Thanks for the vent.

Good luck sasquatch. That'd be one of those things that set me off. Or maybe I just need another cup of coffe....i already called in today (corals coming)
