| Acropora ![]() | Re: help, please.QUICK!!! Start out with the pipe adjusted all the way up... let the skimmer settle then SLOWY adjust it down little by little letting it settle down with each small adjustment until the foam should be around the middle of the tube in the cup area (water level will be around the bottom of the cone) The higher the foam the wetter the skimate. The sponge has absolutely nothing to do with skimmer function It is there to break the flow back to the sump thus eliminating any splashing sounds

| The Wand Geek was here. ;) ![]() | Re: help, please.QUICK!!! The gate-valve takes the place of the tube/sponge you have now. The gate valve will allow for easier adjustments with a turn of a knob (instead of sliding the pipe up/down) I have not installed a gate valve on mine yet but I want to just to get rid of the stinkin sponge.... I don't like cleaning it several times per week. Jason, adjust your skimmer so that the bubbles are approx 1/2-3/4 the way up the riser cup. 1/2 way up will give you dark skimmate; 3/4 the way up will give you thinner skimmate.
