Big ups to Canadian Steve Sasquatch!!! Thanks for releasing my wrasse! It showed up this morning with a big chunck out of its tail but its eating. No idea what happened! It had a slight discoloration where the missing chunk is Looks to me like it just fell out. Could be why it was hiding. Any disease that would cause a piece of the fin to fall off... Its not the whole end of the tail Kinda like an oval running with the body... Its hiding again but at least I know its swimming!

Strange indeed. No disease that I am aware of that does that. Tail and fin rot will erode slowly, not just fall off.

Is there any aggression towards it from another tank mate?
You removed your 'hunting serpent' didn't you?
I wonder if the pistol shrimp would have tried eating the wrasse as it lay sleeping?

I wish I could show you its so odd the piece that is gone... its exactly the size and shape of the slight discoloration it had...
No aggression whatsoever in the tank. Pistol shrimp never wanders far from his hole Hunting serpent now hunts the sump... no clue... nassarius? scarlet hermit? I doubt either one of those would bite ... maybe some sea monster living in my tank that has yet to be discovered...

Well then, it sounds like a bad wound. He could have injured himself prior to you getting him.
