Re: changes.. ch ch changes!

my design will use just one pump.

gravity will keep it flowing from the 30 gallon to the 10 and from the 10 to the sump. my skimmer isnt really relavant to this schematic, but its fed by a powerhead located inside teh overflow box.

I picked up a 1'' diamond holesaw for 20.00, 3/4 pvc will fit very snugly in a 1' hole if you use the bit to enlarge it a tiny bit, plus you can drill tons of holes lol

well after a bit of thinking i decided to go with 2 half inch drains instead of 1 one inch. itll move the same volume of water, but i wont need such a big hole. that one inch hole will take up a lot of space inside the little 10 gallon, whereas 2 half inch holes can be worked out a little better. not sure if i want to do 2 corner over flows, or one big "wall" overflow. i also found a way to make a drain taht will be nice n snug, but wont require a bulkhead. i cant find any bulkheads down here, and i need to get this thing up and running by saturday so that ill have room for my new lions.

im gonna call all over town tomorrow and get someone to cut the holes because i could find a glass cutting bit taht was big enough, plus theyre expensive, plus i dont wanna accidentally ya know... cut my arm off.

Re: changes.. ch ch changes!

aight i have done the deed. the new system is running and worked overnight with no leaks! i have a few questions and concerns though

1) when i woke up there was a light "powdering" of white stuff on my tank walls. side and back only (the walls i dont clean) never seen that before.

2) the ammonia jumped up to 1. is this just because of the bioload of the lions? will it be ok?

3) still trying to get the lions to eat. its only been a day so i know they arent hurting or anything. tried frozen shrimp and brine shrimp so far. im gonna goto the grocery and get a nice seafood variety today.

4) all my snails are acting really weird. the turbos arent even moving (got unstuck from whatever they were on and fell around the time in introduced that medicine) i picked them all up and placed them on rock. they havent moved much. the n vibex are moving very slowly, not as voraciously as usual... the medicine says its reef and invert safe... so you guys know what could be happening?

other than that, everythign seems to be dandy. oh i also dosed melafix on recommendation from my wife. she says they use it all the time at the zoo. i read on some threads here that its kinda ageneral purpose "neosporin" kinda thing, but hey, ya never know.
