bio load on qt

how long should i wait with my penguin 100 bio wheel filter on my tank b4 swithcing to the qt tank?


ive added the ceramic bio tube things that come with the aquaclear hob to the biowheel

i was told 2 weeks will do me good


your thoughts?

Do you just have it running on the QR, or on an established tank? If it's on the QT, you'll need some ammonia source to kick off a cycle for the filter to build a bio-colony with...(time for a cocktail shrimp in the tank!) However, you could run that filter on your established tank, (or put the bio-media in your sump) and speed the process up a bit...

Testing is the only way to tell when the tank is cycled, check parameters regularly and once it is stabalized and parameters are within acceptable limits then you will be ready, it could happen in a couple weeks or it may take longer.

the hob is on my tank..... ill leave it there for say 2 weeks, uncleaned and all then ill switch it over to the qt tank, with 5 gallons from my tank...

jump start a qt tank.

right?

ill just have to do water changes on it regularly and if theres nothing in it, ill have to feed it little every week.
