There are anti-biotics you can use, but you will need to turn off your skimmer and remove any carbon. How long has the pair been together, was the clown there first? They are fairly aggresive but usually more so towards other clowns.

Re: mysterious wound

How big is the tank? If there is enough room for the butterfly to hide, I would let it be for a day or 2 and keep a very watchful eye on them. They may settle down and be just fine after a bit of time.

Re: mysterious wound

I am so sorry to hear of your losses.
Is this a new tank?
What are your water paramaters?
What are you using for filtration?

the tank is around 4-5 months old.
ammonia,nitrate,nitrite-0, pH-8.4
i dont have anything special for filteration. this is a school project and i was told what i HAVE to get. no exceptions. so..i have a hob with an ugf and yes yes i know your going to tell me how terrible that is, but there is nothing i can do about it.
i dont know if there could be anything wrong with the tank because the clown is still alive and healthy.
i just dont know when i should get another fish. i dont want a 55g with just one juvi tomato clown
thank you for your reply

Re: mysterious wound

Butterfly fish are very sensitive and should be only added to mature systems with excellent filtration. If you want to add some more fish to the tank then I would suggest hardier fish such as Chromis or some of the sand sifting gobies or even a hawkfish {if you don't have shrimp}.

Re: mysterious wound

How much LR do you have in this tank ? Although the Coral Beauty is relatively hardy for a Dwarf Angel I wouldn't add it unless you have a good amount of well established LR.
