| Tridacna maxima ![]() | Salt Mix and Alkalinity I'm looking for a good salt mix that has a lower alkalinity than IO (which is around 10.9 for me). Any suggestions? Or, anyone have a link to where there is a chart to compare mixes? Seems like I saw one at one time, but can't find a good one that helps much on the alkalinity issue. Appreciate it!

| Acropora ![]() | Re: Salt Mix and Alkalinity Alk and calcium, a higher alk usually means lower calcium and higher calcium means lower alk. Find a salt that has a higher calcium level and you will see a reduced alk level.... example is Tropic Marin Pro Reef. When I tested it was: Temp 80 SG 1.025 PH 8.1 Calcium 440 Alk 9.0 dKH Mg 1400 Phos 0

| Tridacna maxima ![]() | Re: Salt Mix and Alkalinity I am currently mixing IO with Oceanic based on the recommendation of a LFS. The calc is quite high in the Oceanic, and alk a bit lower than IO. Since I'm not Boomer I can't test this very well, but when I test what is going in the tant it has held true. But, the mix is still going in the tank at about 10.9 alk and 420 calc and it ain't doing much to bring the 12+ level down. Did I mention I am impatient? FIRST RULE - PATIENCE I'm sure I will eventually get there just fine, I'm just hoping for a quicker resolution. 6 months from now I'll be complaining cause it won't stay up, you just watch!

| Sunshine Reefer ![]() | Re: Salt Mix and Alkalinity LOL I am really starting to think we are twins who were separated at birth. Go with TM Pro Reef for salt. It tests out better than anything else I have seen time after time. Meanwhile if you need to make adjustments use the calculator to decide how much of what you need to add to make how much of a change. http://home.comcast.net/~jdieck1/chem_calc3.html
