| Can't crabs roll over? I come down this morning to check out my reef and I find my SPS crab has gone on a walk about. He is on the far end of the tank 6' upside down on the sand. I flipped him over after seeing he wasn't dead and he slowly walked over to the rock edge where he sits still. He may have fallen off my rocks to get where he was but do crabs have the ability to right themselves. I only have one SPS coral which he came with, have had it for about four months but did just move my tank a week and a half ago so I am not surprized he went on walk about. He did that just after I got the SPS but went back and stayed put soon after. |

| Sunshine Reefer ![]() | Re: Can't crabs roll over? I have never had problems with turning crabs over (of course I no longer keep them but certainly did for a time). Many types of snails however cannot turn themselves over so be aware of that. I flip several a day in my 125g reef

| Re: Can't crabs roll over? Update: After my little crab got to the rock edge, I lost track of him. Been a few days and I thought maybe he had gone to that melted butter cup in the sky. Well tonight my g-friend takes a look around the tank and finds him lurking in my rock of GSP. Now he is on the proper end of the tank, we'll see if he is able to find his SPS coral now. |

| Re: Can't crabs roll over? Another Update: HE IS HOME!!! I know it is just a crab and the general dislike of crabs here but this little guy never hurt anyone and he adds a bit of diversity to my tank. I am truley glad he is still a survivor. He sits back in his SPS and waves his arm to collect what passes by. I still can't figure how he is unable to roll over from his backside. |

| Totally stoked dude ![]() | Re: Can't crabs roll over? Just a function of evolution. These guys grow up in a jungle of sps corals and branching rocks. They are designed to hold on to the branches for dear life (if you have ever tried to pry one off an acro you will know what I mean). Even if they were to fall out there is always another branch for them to grab onto nearby. Same deal as the astrea and turbo snails you buy. They fall off into the sand and there is nothing for them to grab to flip over. They evolved in an area with lots of rocks and ledges so they never needed to flip themselves over on the sand. Anyhow I have always loved the crabs that lived in my acros, they are very fun to watch and I haven't noticed any detriment from them living in there.
