Re: phosphate removal ???

I use rowaphos, phosban and a poly filter. Thus far I beleive the best is rowphos in a phosphate reactor.

Re: phosphate removal ???

I also rinse my fish food after soaking in garlic and I have used Rowaphos, phosban, not at the same time. LOL.. I do use them in a mesh bag, passively in my sump. Water change once weekly.

Re: phosphate removal ???

I'm using ROWAphos in a Kent reactor. It works but is very fine and so getting it to work right in the reactor is a challenge. As a result, I have made a bit of a mess in the bottom of my sump. Will keep my eyes on this post to see if there is something better.

Kalkwasser

Ever since I started Kalwasser my phosphate levels have been negligible.

Kalkwasser precipitates out phosphate, which allows calcification to occur better. Due to its high pH, phosphate precipitates out as calcium phosphate.

Re: phosphate removal ???

so that is one of the reasons people say not to let the excess kalk or snow at the bottom of the doser or dripper get in the display?

Re: phosphate removal ???

This is a quote taken from another web site:

"Exactly what is protein skimming, and how does it work? It's simple! Protein skimming, also known as foam fractionation, is accomplished by using a protein skimmer. The purpose of a protein skimmer is to remove DOC's (Dissolved Organic Compounds) from aquarium water, thus improving the quality of the water. There are various styles of skimmers, but their overall design and functionality are pretty much the same."

Re: phosphate removal ???

I run a phosban reactor and do a kalkwasser drip at nite... or Mrs Wages Pickling lime.... it lowers the phosphates plus helps maintain calc and alk...

Re: phosphate removal ???

I go with rinsing the food w/ ro water and phosban run passively.
I now have a new fuge with a shelf for phosban and/or carbon both of which I run occasionally but not always. Hopefully the macro in the fuge with make it unnecessary to resort to Phosban as frequently as in the past since I believe the macro uses phosphates to grow and thrive.
