Mixing dwarf angels.

I have an elbis angel in a 5 foot 400l tank.

Whats the chances of adding another dwarf angel? Thinking maybe a rusty angel.

Cheers

Craig

Re: Mixing dwarf angels.

Not generally recommended. If it is a very large tank you can sometimes get away with it but generally they will pick on each other until one or the other wins often resulting in the death of the other. I do know at least one person with a 200+gallon tank who is keeping 2 successfully but I would only attempt it in a very large system and then do so with care.

Not usually good at least not in that size tank. If they were added simultaneously in a larger tank with plenty of rockwork and they were still juveniles or a smaller one was added first and well adjusted then maybe. The one thing about the captive bred that used to be available was they were nowhere near as aggressive with conspecifics as the wild ones.

Good decision ! The Dwarfs are one of my favorite fish and in the past I have tried to mix them with catastrophic results definitely don't recommend it.

Re: Mixing dwarf angels.

I velieve I am having issues with my Brazilian Flameback nipping certain corals as well. They are supposed to be one of the relatively reef save dwarf angels but something is nipping at them. I think he may get a time out in my fuge once it is running properly since he is one of my favorite fish and I do not want to get rid of him unless he is really the one doing the damage.

Re: Mixing dwarf angels.

In my 60 and 90 I had a flame back angel and a coral beauty. Lynn my flame back also killed one of my clams and also killed several SPS.

Re: Mixing dwarf angels.

I had a false lemonpeel and also had a cherub angel, the guy that was helping me with my water changes at the time just tossed the false lemonpeel into the reef tank with my cherub and they fought to the death of the cherub. I would of tried to get the lemompeel out but couldn't. I had way too much rock at the time. I about cried myself to sleep at night, it was so sad and I was so mad at this guy.

Re: Mixing dwarf angels.

I suppose it is possible, but I never saw any damage on the mantle. He just started not reacting as quickly to light changes and started not opening all the way. A day or 2 later and he was dead. Both of my other clams look fine ATM but I have a couple of corals that look like they took some damage. Probably from the dying clam since both are on the same side of the tank as the clam. One I have lots of frags of and it grows like crazy so I am not that worried, but my scrolling hammer has a couple of discolored places that have me all worried. I'm going to do a water change tomorrow and hopefully that will dilute anything the clam may have put in the water. Full testing as well is on the schedule so I hope to be back on track with hopefully just the one loss. While I loved the clam it was a freebie and actually pretty large for my tank. I will mourn the animal because it was life.
