Re: Sea Hares Rock!!!

I am trying to find information and cannot see if both of the species will eat the algae that is all over my glass or only one type?

Anyone?

Re: Sea Hares Rock!!!

According to the article that JFK mentioned and linked, the Aplysia does not prefer to eat hair algae, but will if that is all there is. It doesn't mention the Bursatella whether it likes hair algae. I get from the article that seas hares do better if fed seaweed or the dried version, nori. But JFK obviously has success with it!

Sea Hares are known to feed on numerous types of macroalgae, including red, brown, and green... they are lovers of Caulerpa. All that's left in my tank is a small patch of hair algae... I'll let you know if it decides to munch that carpet!

Re: Sea Hares Rock!!!

Hmm somehow I think sea hares rock. Wonder where I got that idea? LOL
I would love to see an after shot to go with the before. BTW I will be in S Fla at the beginning of March if you are still looking to get rid of it then.

Here's the shot before and after... look at what was hidden underneath

Also notice the little patch the Sea Hare left behind before moving on to another area. It seems to always leave a little patch behind, then moves on to another area before coming back to it. Problem is... there's not much left for it to eat... I've already bought some caulerpa to supplement the little macro-algae left in my tank.

Before

After

Sound like a plan Lynn... I know you'll give him a good home!

I'll keep him fed on Caulerpa until you come to get him.

Re: Sea Hares Rock!!!

Sounds great to me. I am now going to be down there once a month so if the patches he left start growing, I can easily return him to clean your tank once again.

Re: Sea Hares Rock!!!

Mojo does

On a side note, I think we need to have Sea hares as a photo contest to see who has the ugliest one!
