Re: Sea Hares Rock!!!

Maybe they prefer the tenderness and taste of the new growth? Who knows, maybe the short stuff they leave behind is like the rind of a watermelon? Not as tender, and MUCH less flavorful... kind of like the bottom stalks of asparagus...

Re: Sea Hares Rock!!!

Just and update... and someone else on another thread was asking about Sea Hares.

My Sea Hare continues to totally rock...

He has annihilated the macro algae on one side of my tank and is working diligently on what's remaining. I am already making plans to cultivate some of the macro algae for when he's completely finished wiping it out.

I've grown sooo attached to him that I think I'm in

Does anyone have fondness for milk cows??? That's what my Sea Hare reminds me of... always munching away at algae as if it were hay... and he's also mellow and relaxed like a cow out to pasture.

Totally and completely recommend them!!!

One caveat... Handle them gently to avoid the ink response.

what happens if it inks itself in the aquarium? do you have to do water changes and does it turn the water black?

Re: Sea Hares Rock!!!

Maybe we need a sea hares rock button.
I love the fact that my lfs is renting them now. I think it is an awesome idea since I would worry about it starving once it had beaten the problem.

Re: Sea Hares Rock!!!

I wonder if it is feasable to set up a RS sea hare loan program. One reefer uses it for house cleaning, then ships it to the next reefer in need. He/she then ships it to another reefer and so on. Perhaps, it can be on loan for 3-4 months. The cost would be the shipping to the next recipient. May be too stressful on the animal. Don't know how hardy they are.
