| Pistol Shrimp ![]() | R.I.P. Dispar Anthias To my great sadness, this morning I was not greeted at the glass of my reef tank by my cherished Dispar Anthias. He was happy and active last night when I tucked them in for bed last night, and this morning when I went to do my regular maintenance and feeding, he wasn't there to greet me. I looked all over the tank, in the rockwork, behind the rockwork, in his usual sleeping quarters. As I was peering from behind the tank, I noticed something on the floor behind my sump. It was my Dispar with mouth wide open and dried out. I realized that one thing he would do was to run up and down the back corner of the tank from time to time. Being that this is a corner bow-front tank, my back corner is uncovered over 1 1/2". Obviously that was enough to allow him to jump right out. I cared for him for almost 1 year and he rewarded me with grace, beauty and entertainment. He was closely bonded with my Yellow Tang, staying close by his side. And I neglected to protect him from an open air flight path. This is a lesson I will always remember and just wanted to share with everyone. I have now covered the back corner in order to prevent an incident like this from happening again. I will be getting another Dispar as it really is a striking specimen on the reef and plays well with other inhabitants.
