Salt and Sand

What brand of salt is the best? I am currently using Oceanic. I think I need a larger grain sand, the sugar size seems to blow around to much, but I want to have burrowing animals so I can't hve anything to coarse, any suggestions?

Re: Salt and Sand

There is no best salt but Oceanic can be more problematic than most with very high calcium and magnesium levels but very low in alkalinity. I would look for Tropic Marin, have heard good things about it. AFA the sand once it becomes colonized with bacteria the cloudiness will end. What you can do is add a few lbs. of Live sand.

Re: Salt and Sand

I have over 100 lbs. of southdown sand which is sugar size with about 2700 gallons of flow in a cube tank and no sandstorms. I seeded it with about 20 lbs. of Live sand but in a few days it was all cleared up. Here's what it looked like in the first 24 hours:
