| Manta Ray ![]() | best food for tangs hey guys, i have a yellow tang who is beautiful, very bright yellow and i hvae had him for about 6-7 months and he is only getting brighter. I feed him a mixture but i attest this to Kent Platinum Herbivor food, which is loaded with nutrients and spirulina. My question is, i bought nori seaweed for him to pick at but i feel like it desintegrates kinda fast and gets swept away before he gets to eat much of it. What would be better than nori. Would spinach hold up better. i ask because i have noticed inthe last few days that some of the xenia has been nipped and i think he may be hungry. Thanks guys, any ideas are welcome |

| Golden Moray ![]() | Re: best food for tangs if you keep putting in the nori he will learn to eat it fast. With my fish it took about a week before they realized that its food. Just give it some time. As far as the xenia go i would say that it is more likely the wrasse but it could be the tang too |

| Wannabe Guru ![]() | Re: best food for tangs Nori and the red marine algae are immediately consumed by my PT and just about all the other inhabitants including my Trigger and in time as aquaman mentioned yours will eat it quickly. Just be careful how much you add since it's like adding a sheet of phosphate. How old is your LR ? There should be plenty of micro/macro algae for it to feed...how much LR do you have ?

| Fuzzy Sticks ![]() | Re: best food for tangs I roll my nori up real tight and then attach it to a piece of live rock with a rubber band. I find rolling it tight keeps it from falling apart when it hits the water. Yes, spinach is good also but harder to get them to feed on. My triggers love the nori also cheeks! |

| Sunshine Reefer ![]() | Re: best food for tangs The nori I get from the grocery store falls apart much more quickly than what I buy at the lfs. Try some of that you may have better luck.

But I don't think there is anything better than some nori and some selcon or zoecon or garlic on it.

| Fuzzy Sticks ![]() | Re: best food for tangs Romaine has little value in nutrients. The best way to get nori is fresh from the sushi bar. Just go to a japanese restraunt and buy it. Mine give it to me for free. fresh wont fall apart like dried out nori will. If you can get it fresh keep it in plastice wrap so it dosen't dry out. |

| Reef Lobster | Re: best food for tangs just make sure it's not seasoned, and any nori will be fine. i get roasted. it hangs together nicely for about 3 days... if the tangs let it sit that long. on the topic question. i think you need to feed a variety. obviously, they need a lot of algae, but some mysis is good also. it's not good to get stuck on any one food with your fish. selcon and garlic are awesome additives too.

| Bryozoan | Re: best food for tangs I use the packaged Nori that they have at the super Kroger near our house and it stays together pretty well and everyone loves it in my tank. I remove what is stuck in the clip or what doesn't get eaten after a few hours and toss it because after a day or two it goes rancid in the water. My big Lopezi and Foxface can devour an entire sheet in about 10 minutes so sometimes I bundle 2 sheets tightly and let everything eat it. If all the fish don't finish it off, I slide the clip to bottom of the tank and the emerald crabs, hermits, and turbos finish it off in no time. |
