Goniopora..FlowerPot Coral

I have this FlowerPot Coral in my 180 Gal tank in corner, moderate flow and good lighting....It has nearly trippled in size in about three months.
Feed it cyclopeze, Dt's plankton and shrimp(baby brine) clacium levels are always above 400...Alk is always around 10....all other levels are undetectable(the bad stuff).
Anyone know anything about these guys, seems to be a lot of debate whether they are good aquarium animals, die after 12 months.?.?
This one has even budded and has anther bud about ready to come off...seems to me it is very healthy.
Any advice, do's or do not's with this animal?
Greatly appreciated

I currently have 2, one just like yours and a pink one. I have heard all the same things you have mentioned. I have had the green for about 3 months and has grown rapidly and is very healthy like yours. Im curious as well on what others have to say....

Re: Goniopora..FlowerPot Coral

its widely considered to be a collection issue. if you get a healthy one, they are very hardy.

Re: Goniopora..FlowerPot Coral

Never had any luck with them.....I resist trying to keep them now, I am glad that somebody is haveing luck with them, I always figured that they were a coral just collected to be killed.....great job on keeping them healthy!!!

Re: Goniopora..FlowerPot Coral

systems without a skimmer have been said to support a goniopora better than the super clean or almost stripped system that todays powerful skimmers produce

thats what i have been told by many when i tell them i have a growing aquacultured goniopora bud in my system

good luck

Re: Goniopora..FlowerPot Coral

also, a nice thing, is that you can help keep healthy versions of this coral abounding. those buds will be a lot more hardy than the mother colony, and should adapt to any well-kept aquarium well... then when they bud you've got 2rd generation aquacultured!!

salty... that seems to be the idea with elegance too... i bet there's a connection.

i wouldn't recommend them in a ridiculously low nutrient sps tank, but i don't think you have to have a "dirty" tank either.
