Breeding Brine Shrimp?

Ok.. I have a QT tank set up and have nothing that I am QTing at the moment.. now I am wondering if I can use it to raise brine shrimp.. has anyone done this?

I am wondering what kind of steps I need to take to make sure that the live ones that I buy from the LFS survive and breed?

Re: Breeding Brine Shrimp?

Better idea, get a brineshrimp breeder with eggs. It's basically a stand, with an airline, and you supply a 2 liter bottle. It keeps the eggs suspended so they will hatch. After that if you want to grow them then you could transfer them into the tank for growout.

Re: Breeding Brine Shrimp?

What if I already have a tank setup that I can put them in? I have that QT setup and cycled with all the stuff you gave me and am looking to set that up now to keep brine in it.

Re: Breeding Brine Shrimp?

Problem is norm, the brine shrimp will get sucked up into the hob filter and the key to getting eggs to hatch is to keep them in suspension, in other words they can not gather up in a corner of a tank and sit there. Another thought is water quality is really not a big issue for brineshrimp.

Re: Breeding Brine Shrimp?

So I take the filter off and let the water have only the small powerhead you gave me and that works? Will that mess up the QT?

Re: Breeding Brine Shrimp?

Hatch the brine in a seperate container first, remove the hob filter, then you can raise brineshrimp (aka sea monkeys) in the tank, you will want to put an airstone in the tank for circulation.

Re: Breeding Brine Shrimp?

What if I use a bag of live brine from my LFS?

Re: Breeding Brine Shrimp?

yeah, that would probably work... depends on the salinity of the water he started them with.
