| Tunicate | help w/ wet/ dry questions please.!!! hi i have a 55 g tank no w/ 60 lb. live rock, around 10 fish ,some snails, etc. i have a cascade 1000 canister filter,200watt heater,75g protein skimmer.i keep getting mixed reviews about ,wet/drys,refugiums and sumps.i bought some kit on ebay to yurn any 10 g tank into a refugium. my tank has only been up for a month and everything seems ok except nitrites a little hi.should i just go and get a wet/dry and be done w/ it.but i hear that if you have live rock AND a wet /dry that your making them fight for the biological aspect of everything.than i hear about a" reugiums are the best way to go",what do i do. im new at this hobby and i already spent alot of money and i want to get the right stuff. please help rob |

| Sunshine Reefer ![]() | Re: help w/ wet/ dry questions please.!!! Are you going for a reef or a FOWLR set up? If your goal is a reef then I would skip the wet/dry. They tend to leave you with high nitrates which the corals cannot tolerate. If FOWLR then you could get one, but it is not necessary. Your LR should be able to handle the biological filtration without the wet/dry. A fuge is a great idea, but not a requirement. If your tank has only been up a month then you are probably still going through your initial cycle. 10 fish is a lot particularly if the tank is still cycling. Please do not add any more at least for now. Depending on the fish you may be maxed out on your bio-load already for that size system. Hope that helps some. Oh and I forgot the most important thing. Welcome to RS! There are lots of friendly helpful people here so ask away and post some pics of your setup when you can.

| Re: help w/ wet/ dry questions please.!!! I agree, I would skip the wet dry and add a refugium instead. It will add water volume to help with the bio load and allow copods, macro algae etc. a safe place to grow and breed. |
