Re: therme algea scubber -the arrival

OK all here it is.

I tested this on my 240 acrylic tank, I tested it on an end that I rarely if ever clean. Does it work you ask, well yes it does. Does it scratch the acrylic, no it doesn't as long as you are careful. What do you mean, you ask. Well you can't drop the scrapper in the sand and then pick it up with the magnet and keep going. Yes it was my fault....

Now, I will post some pictures with my results and info soon. But for now I would have to say on a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being worst 10 being absolutely get it) I would give it an 8. Reason for this ranking to follow.

Just my opinion.

cool nice to hear. does that 8/10 rating factor in the cost of it??? is it worth the money or just something thats nice to have.
how long do you think it takes to clean the front glass/acrylic in your tank normally?
is this something that would be used for daily cleanning or ????

Re: therme algea scubber -the arrival

Here are the pros and cons:
Pros: Does kill off coralline algae to make it easier to remove
Acrylic safe (provided you are careful)
Fairly easy to operate
Saves time
Can reach most of those unreachable spots to remove coralline

Cons: Cost a little high
Heating area a little small for me
Can not heat in corners (just a little off) you will leave about 1/8th
of an inch of coralline in corners

Over all I found it easy to use. It takes a little time to get used to how long you need to leave it in a spot to kill off the coralline algae. After you do heat it and kill it off it does come off easier, however the scrapper (in my application) was just a little on the week side to get it. You also must be VERY careful not to scratch the Acrylic, any little piece of sand kicked up will get caught in it and scratch. So if you have a sand bed I would not recommend using it close to the sand bed unless you are very very careful. It does save time and it does get into those areas you can not get to with a traditional scrapper. My tank is 30 inches tall and the back right and left corners are almost impossible for me to reach, this product cleaned those areas for me.

I will try to get some picture posted sometime this week of the product in use.

i say this as my best advice to a beginner. do not,,,and i repeat,,,,,DO NOT look at my tank as an example....i have a well practised eye, decades of experience, and a trunkload of failures to allow me to force the issue and get away with things most cannot~

Wit, all I can tell you is this honestly, the heating element does kill off the coraline which makes it easier to remove. Is it easier to remove coraline from a glass tank with a razor? Couldn't honestly tell you, I have never come near any of my tanks with a razor

It is defiantly easier to kill the coraline before removal, with a razor or not.
