Arrow Who uses Ushio 10k's? (175w) ...

We just put one on the frag tank, and I must say, I'm pretty dissapointed with the color.

Running no act's to balance, but I thought it would be much whiter. It's only been running a couple days, so I'm guessing it might need a "burn-in" period?

As for right now, the tint is more green/yellow (or at least as green-yellow) - as our 6500k Iwasaki's with no actinics.

No biggie, just a frag tank in the basement, but I really was expecting more *white*/clear.

Am I just being impatient?

Teri I have them on my frag tank also, but they dont look yellow at all, crisp white for sure. I know thier has been a lot of discussion about the nipple thing, but it does make a big difference on mine. also give it aleast a week for burn in.

Nope, I think you can expect it to get more yellow/white, but not bluer/white. I run a 175w Ushio 10K and the first couple of days, it could have been run w/out the actinics no problem, but after a week....there was no way.

I'll try to find the pics I took way back when.

YUP.

I have 2 175w Ushio 10k's and I was HORRIFIED at first. I was running them on Hamilton ballasts. What were you using Reefrunner? Mine got better and not worse after time.

Alright, you caught Don's ear with that remark, LOL!

We'll play patient for now. I'm not sure I understand the whole nipple thing though, can you explain a *bit* more when you have a sec?

The light is *green* - light, lime green, more green than yellow.

They aren't the *crisp* white that they claim. I had 2 of them on my old tank. It will take a week or so to burn them in, but they don't seem to turn blue/white, it is more of a yellow/white look. Sorry.

LOL---

The dangers of editing. They were HORRIBLE....I MEAN ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!!! They burned in after a week or so and they did get whiter. (Not a blue white, but a white-white). The post said I used to have an ice cap ballast running actinics as well but it broke and hasn't been running for months. My corals are growing darn fine without them regardless (while I don't like the looks as much).
