test kit

I was wondering what everybody's second choice in test kits would be. I know salifert is most people first choice but I was just at marinedepot and salifert price have gone way up, and I have a feeling that other vendors will soon raise their prices on salifert to. also they always seemed to be out of stock, so I would like to hear some of your second choices.

I own a variety of test kits. Salifert, LaMotte, Tetra, and Hagen. IMHO, the Salifert kits are as good as the LaMotte ones, and both are far superior to the others I have. When I got the LaMotte kits, the guy said they were way too complicated for him to use, but they are almost identical to the Salifert kits in procedure. Expensive, and maybe worth it, but if I was going to buy new ones, I'd get the Saliferts.

Fastest and Seatest from aquarium systems are a good choice. I've been using them since i started my tank (march 2003)

We started out with Fastest. Changed to Salifert because we heard they were better. We come very close to the same results though. And they are cheaper.

The seachem test kits are pretty decent too, aside from Salifert or Lamotte.

I've used a number of test kits in my day. I don't like red sea. Some of the Tetratest kits were decent and some of them barely had a color change making it hard for me to decide what the color really was. That's one of the reasons I like Salifert. (That, plus I can run the test more than once and get the same result).

I got the reef kit from redsea from petsmart. Man am I sorry. I have gone through and replaced almost everyone of them now with Salifert kits. I know I do not need to sell you on salifert kits, but I like them a lot better than the red sea.

Moral of story Stay Away From Red Sea!

I've had really good luck with salifert test kits, but when I went to marinedepot to order a ammonia test kit and saw how much the price had increased it got me thinking about some good alternatives
