Straight to square converter?

I have a square pin 96W Coral Sealife P.C. system. I see straight pin bulbs advertised on E-Bay for very good prices, with the converter allows straight pin bulbs to fit square pin recepticle. Has anyone used these and how well do they work. Also the underwater 32" bulbs any experience with these?

Re: Straight to square converter?

i would think on a retro, you could get away with teh converters, but depending on how much length it adds to the bulb, it might not work on some fixtures.

is there any reason you want to convert? both pin configs are readily available, and there's no price difference.

Re: Straight to square converter?

they are selling straight pin bulbs by odeysea for $ 15.00 shipping included with the converter straight / square. They do not have square pin at thjis price. I could buy 6 bulbs for $12.00 each shipping included and the converter included!

Just not sure how they work, quality etc. I did think about added length with the converter they say less than 1/4" difference

Re: Straight to square converter?

i don't see how that would work, as the pins are at least an inch long. are you sure it's a plug and play converter and not something to hack up.

i'd recommend against anything by oddessea, or however you spell it.

bulbs are definitely a prime area of "you get what you pay for" in reefkeeping... but it's worth a try at that price.

Re: Straight to square converter?

I've used their bulbs before, back when they went by Jebo (it seems that their quality, or lack there of, forces them to change names often. Hmmm...???). I did like the coloration I got, but the bulbs didn't last nearly as long, I noticed a color shift after 4-5 months. I can't say that they were very beneficial either, as only my least attractive brown zoos grew under them.
