the chevron ,the nori, and the fight..funny read

so after asking about food for my chevron tang that will only eat the algea in the tank i listened to some advice and decided to go out and buy some nori (seaweed) as it turned out to be..'
i put a piece in a plastics clip and set it near the top of the water coloum and waited..4 hours later i decieded he wasnt gonna eat it so reached in to take it out..it fell to the bottom of the tank with the plastic clip and i decieded i was too lazy to get my hands wet at that moment so left it there.
sure as chit within a few minuted scaredy fish decided to swim by and see what was up..he then took a nibble ,and another before he decided to beat the crap outta the seaweed and the clip..he backed is rear up and started smacking it with his tail and aggressivally let it know how was boss..he then decided to rush it a few times before he left it completely and has ignored it ever since..lmao..this is one messed-up fish..ive also noticed the only other fish in my tank, purple royal gramma is scared to death to swim around and i guess i now know why..i watched foir awhile and he chases him like a red headed step-child..thats one ornery fish i tell ya..acting like a scardey cat but really beeing a big bully..
hes back to cleanin the sand and mowing the lawn for me ..guess thats his diet and hes not changing it..

ROFL
I would continue trying to feed him the nori. He and some of your other fish should figure it out. You must have the exact opposite Chevron from mine, Mine will eat everything. In fact he routinely tries to eat the clip. He also eats my fish mush, mysis, flake, and pellets. We have even nicknamed him "piggy" Of course I do not have much non-corraline algae in my tank so maybe that is the difference or different fish different lifestyle and all that.
Amusingly enough mine is also a very passive fish. How big is yours? Mine is about 4 inches long so kind of an older juvenile. He still has some of his juvie colors etc but is not the bright orange I have seen on the babies in the pet shop.

I purchased a chevron from saltwaterfish.com and was pretty bummed when I got a 4"+ non juvinile tang."not the 2-3" as advertised"
Although mine is a week ild he grazes the rocks and sand like crazy but doesnt eat anything off the rocks that I can even see.I wish he would eat some algae that is growing. Anyway he eats freeze dried brine and nori.
CRAZY how they can be so different.

i would try to get him on mysis as opposed to brine.

brine has no nutritional value, and is basically like marine popcorn. they love to eat it, but they don't get anything out of it.

mine is still pretty small and has unreal colour, very bright orange and the pattern is a baby plue colour if you can believe that..i didnt realize they lost this colour with age .what am i to expect down the road>? also since my tank is full on algea coraline and others i think there is more than enough to keep him full and this might be why hes not intrested in other foods..his ick that he got 2 days after entering my tank has seemed to dissapear completely in two weeks,is this possible>?

JUVINILE

JUVINILE NO MORE

I dont think you tang really had ich as it just needs to acclimate itself to its new soroundings. They are very touchy fish, bnut after a few days and once they are eating all is fine.

hey thanx those are awsome pictures of both fish for a great comparison..
mine is bright orange like the first with dark blue borders, orange tail with blue border, with fins pinnstripped blue, and baby blue and purple on body..there where quite a few at the fish store when i was there all about the same size but this one stood out like a sore thumb and looked nothing like the others..i picked -out (before seeing this one) another first and as we were bagging it i saw my fish out of the corner of my eye and asked whats up with that fishh..the owner said wow he is a chevron too and he took a doulbe take and said never seen one quite that bright though..sure as chit i was sold..
i will try to take a picture and hope it will bring out the colours for u all to see..it almost like hes a cross between the adult and baby but keeping the nicer brighter baby colours

love to see your pictures... the first tang died on me and the second was my replacement as saltwaterfish.com gives a guarantee if your fish dies in the first 15 days.
I wasnt very with happy with my 2nd fish. 2"-3" would be a juvinile as my fish is 4"+. whatcha going to do?

for nori, also, try rubber banding a piece to the rocks... that's a more natural means. kole's and chevron's look down naturally for food, so you have to put the nori down on the rocks initially. after about a week or two of them eating it off the rock (It might take a while for them to find it... just leave it be... 4 hours isn't enough), after that, switch to a clip... they will then be used to their snack, and smell it, and when it's not in the normal place, they'll go looking, and find it on the clip!
