Fan worm?

I got home from school today, and noticed one of my mushrooms closed like it was eating something, made sure all fish were accounted for, and thought nothing of it. Well, about 15 minutes later it opened, and there was one of the many fan worm looking things that were in holes in the shroom rock. It left its hole and was being eaten by the shroom! I grabbed the camera and snapped a few shots. It looks like a fan worm, but there are 2 little green tenticles in the middle of each.

Joey

I think I seen a post somewhere on what it is, I think it was from Travis. Did you get the worm out of your tank?

BTW, this all happened a half hour ago, and right after i took these pics, while I was trimmming them, the worm dissapeared, I think it either finally was swallowed, or went back into its hole.

Joey,

It looks just like a medusa worm, I could be wrong.

Fidojoe,
What kind of shroom is that? I have the same one but haven't gotten a good ID on it. What are the requirments for flow and light and food?

Sorry for hijacking the thread. That is weird though to see a worm in the mouth of a shroom. Cool pics!

Peace

EK

My lfs told me that they are green fuzzy shrooms, and thats all I know, I wish I knew more. They seem to like any light in my tank, from the shadows to the top, they take little time to adjust too. As for flow, they do fine from low, to med. I had them about 6" from the out put of my AC 201 PH, and they closed and didn't open, so I know they don't like hight flow. I have about 11 of them on the rock that I bought.

Cool, I guess we make due with the info we have.
Mine was huge once, then I moved it, and it's small. I'm thinking flow is the issue. I'll move it and we'll see what happens.

Thanks

Yeah, mine have been in the middle of my tank the most, they seem to open better there, about 3" across for the bigger ones. towards the sides tho, they only open to 2". As for my flow, I have 1100 gph in a 50 gallon, and all the phs are towards the back corners, and in the middle I have my 200 gph skimmer with a waterfall type return, so I think the milder the flow, the better.

Dang! I got 120 gal and hour in a 12 gal, the minium flow. I guess the flow isn't the issue. LOL maybe they just seemed bigger when I first got them.

Peace

Humm, do you have them right at the output of the ph, or right at the top of the rock structure?

Where they are now, you can sort of see them right next to the glove polyps, is the biggest I've ever seen them open. My rock structure is kinda in a wave formation, if you look at it from the top, it is shaped like this ~, so the shrooms are sorta protected from the flow.

Edit:Oops, messed up the img tags

they are on the left side of the tank, away from the PH, on top of the structure, which in this area is the lowest part of the structure.

I moved them to the top of the peice of LR they are on in this pic. Pic is a couple of months old.

Thanks

Weird, what lighting do you have? It might be too much for your shrooms, you could try moving them to a dimmer spot, like in the shadowy spot right below where the clown is in that pic.

Ok, we got off topic, but I still want to know what these are, and if I need to pull the other 3 or 4 of them out of my shroom rock.

Thanks
