Re: can clams

Terry, alc is a bit low, nitrates a bit too high for clams, personally I would stop the additives now and do some water changes, clams are filter feeders and are very specific about the size of food my worry would be the ultra bac additive is both fouling your water and suffocating the clam, Im sure somebody with more experiance will weigh in on this, do you use any carbon?? Steve

Re: can clams

Terry, I would try to get my alk. up, slowly and see if it can be kept more stable. If clams love one thing it is stability. Swings in water params are what can really make a clam sick. I would also stop this additive.

They probably can and expell it too if under severe stress...has it bleached or become very light in color ? Clams need a stable mature tank particularly cal/alk. How long has this tank been established ? What type of lighting are you using and how many watts ? What are the dimensions of the tank ?

Clams are filter feeders and will absorve dissolved nutrients therefore lowering your nitrates. You say there's mucous are you noticing the mantle pinching at all ? Do you have a photo of the clam ?
