what are these spots

Went to dinner all was fine, come home to these two spots on my Foxface. I don't think it is ich, I have seen that before. the spots look almost like a burn! The one on the base of the fin does seem to have a slight bump to it, on the tail it is flat. He seems to not be bothered by it as much as I am. He has used the cleaner shrimp in the past but doesn't seem to be searching them out at this time. Water seems good, other fish, blue gudgeon gobies are happy, twin spot goby is good too. All corals are good, hermits and snails are fine.

Re: what are these spots

no, definitely not a pod. Little more info here, I have been running UV for the last month 24/7 because I have a Sailfin Tang in QT that is due to go in this display this week.

Re: what are these spots

if your sure it is not a pod. then it could be fish T.B. or lymphocyctis, some other viral infection possible. if lymphocyctis not much you can do just good food and good water. sorry i can not help more. just giving could be's. maybe someone will chime in that had something like that, to give you better info, sorry again hope he pulls through whatever it is, best of luck.

Re: what are these spots

OK I think I have figured this to be lymphocyctis, from google searches. Is this contagious, I do 15% water changes every 2 weeks and do not overfeed. Tank looks clean and I feed a varied diet. Is this contagious and should I wait to add my Sailfin Tang. I really am sick of watching the tang in the QT!

Just catch the fish and scrape it off if its not imbedded in the flesh.

Easier said then done! He doesn't net so well as his dorsal rays are venemous and stick bad in a net.

Re: what are these spots

yes it contagious. it is passed from fish to fish via direct contact. there is no known cure. the best thing is good food and good water, vitamins and such help also. IMO the best course of action is to catch him and scrape it off. plus what i said about feeding and water. if you dont want to do that is usually goes away on its own. but if the fish can not fight it off he is doomed.

Re: what are these spots

My Clown had lympho and eventually went away without infecting any other fish. I would just concentrate on maintaining excellent water quality and it should pass...I would definitely not try to net the fish IMO that'll only stress the fish.

Re: what are these spots

at this point i would agree with water quality to see if it cures up on its own. its still very small. but as others have suggested, scraping it off if it progresses is a viable option, i have done it many times. after scraping, dab area with a Q-tip dipped in iodine.

Re: what are these spots

Thanks all for the responses. The spot on the tail is gone already. I will watch it and if it does get worse guess I will glove up and catch him and scrape.

Re: what are these spots

The spot on the tail is gone? Are you sure it wasn't a type of fluke?
