Re: which skimmer is better???

I haven't heard of anyone disappointed with ASM. I use euroreef just because I always have and was very impressed with the quality of the acrylic used in the skimmer construction. I haven't ever had an ASM to compare directly with.
I don't think you would go wrong with either.

Re: which skimmer is better???

No they're not the same, but similar. The "legend" is that 2 guys started Euro-Reef, and later split...one keeping EuroReef, the other starting ASM They use the same needlewheel types of pumps, (recently E/R changed brands) and ASM changed some appearance things, but still basically the same techmology used in both. The main difference, is E/R uses (used?) cell cast acrylic for it's skimmer construction, and ASM uses cheaper extruded acrylic. There are a few other minor differences as well, but they really don't affect things much as I understand it...BOTH are excellent skimmers.

Re: which skimmer is better???

I thought euro reef was the original (better made, more expensive) and asm is the American knock off

Re: which skimmer is better???

They are both american made...(or at least used to be) AFAIK...The "euro" in their name, came from styling their products after some of the European skimmers, like Deltec and H&S...

Re: which skimmer is better???

ok now that we determine that they are both good, theres another factor the euroreef is 24" and the asm is 25" and i have a max clearance 0f 26" is this enough clearance for the removal of the cup? here are the links to the two skimmers

Re: which skimmer is better???

I don't think you need any extra clearance to remove either collection cup. My ER skimmer sup is an older model that has a union valve to connect it, but it doesn't need any extra height to remove the cup.

Regardless with whichever model you choose, look into doing the gate valve modification. Works great.
