phosbane reactor question

i have a reactor and i need some help with the media.. on the directions it says to add 50g per 50 gallons of saltwater. i have a 55 gallon tank and when i converted grams to tablespoons i came up with 3.5 spoon full .. does this sound right to anyone

Re: phosbane reactor question

It's not much. IIRC, for my 90 gallon, there was about 1-1/2 to 2" in the reactor. Be sure NOT to let it tumble or you will end up with an orange tank! I think it needs about 80 gph MAX flow thru it.

Re: phosbane reactor question

Do NOT tumble phosban or Rowaphos. This is experience talking here...not just passing on something I read somewhere...I turned my tank into a solid orange fog...so thick you couldn't see 4 inches into it... Took a couple of days to settle back out, and a couple of weeks to finally get the mess cleaned up...Didn't seem to hurt anything however, but sure looked horrible, and I thought for sure I had nuked the tank...
BUT, sort of in my own defense, I was using one of the Fluidized Bed Filters instead of a reactor, and used a Maxi-Jet 1200 for power! heh-heh...when I first hooked it up, I had a Mag 5 plumbed to it, but (fortunately) I had put the FBF together wrong, and nothing would flow thru it...sheesh, what a mess THAT would have been...

Re: phosbane reactor question

We have about 2" of Rowa-phos in our reactor. As Boomer said, we do not let it tumble. We also run about 5 gals of RO/DI water through it before we add it to our sump. That helps to get some of the orange out.

Re: phosbane reactor question

Gee, all I have to do with the Rowa-phos in my reactor is rinse it w/RO water (like the instructions say) and I don't get the orange tank thing, and yes, it does tumble.
Regards,
Dean

Re: phosbane reactor question

i thought 50 GPH was about right for a Phosban150 Reactor. I try to get 150 grams to just tumble at the top, but not rise into the column. Just intalled it 3 days ago.
