anybody seen rocks peel?

This may sound like a dumb question but we have around 100lbs of lr in our tank reds,purples,greens and white. One rock looks like someone dumped a liquid purple hardening shell all over it. It apears that this rock is sheding like a snake. Anybody ever seen that before?

Is it just coralline algae growing and plating out?
Or are you loosing the coralline?

no i'm not loosing the coralline, its the first time that my rock has done this.

When coralline grows it plates out kinda like hardening shell.
A sure bet is if at the edge of the purple it is white. That is a sign of growth for coralline.

I'm with sharks .... if you get a really good batch of LR then the coraline grows in layers, like putting down layers of plaster on top of each other. When it dies back / which can just be due to a change in lighting (not poor water Q or anything bad), it peels away in the layers it was set down. Can you get any pics for us
