Help With Chiller 1/10

HI everyone, I continue asking for help. My chiller is a current USA prime chiller 1/10. I conect it yesterday but I don't sure if the flow is the correct.
The chiller is conected to the return pump ( resun 950 gph max flow ) I try to measuremen the output from the chiller but I think that I am making some wrong because the measured flow was too slow. When I turn on the chiller the temperature was 85 ( don't wory I don't have corals yet). The problems is the time that chiller take to down a degree. the chiller was colling for several hours until 78 F. My question is, Is this normal or if someone have a 1/10 chiller, what time take to down the temperature.

The diagram is my aquarium set up
Welcome any sugesstions

Re: Help With Chiller 1/10

How big is your tank's total water volume? Looking at their website, I see that they are rated for 7-12 gpm, (420-720 gph) so possibly you are trying to push the water thru the unit too fast to properly chill the water...
Also, you don't want it to cool TOO fast. A sudden drop in temperature can be VERY stressful on your tank's inhabitants. A slow drop is much better. The real test will be how well it maintains a set temperature...

Ok, looking at your drawing, (sorry, it's early here...still working on that first cup of coffee) I see one major change I'd make if it were my set-up.
instead of having one pump feed the chiller and push the water up as the return pump, I'd use a dedicated pump for the chiller, which would then return the water back into the sump, and one pump for the tank return line. Allows you MUCH better control of the chiller function, without affecting the tank's turn over rate.
