Yes that would be a good idea. Do you know which carpet you have ? Although the Haddoni should be ok with VHO lighting that's NOT the case with the Gigantea nor the Mertensii, they come from shallow water and need intense lighting to survive and ship very poorly.

This is what my Haddoni did to my Blue Throat Trigger:

Re: Saddle-back clownfish host?

Woodstock lost her carpet due to the intense attention from her clowns. You may want to read her 90 gallon thread for details.

Yes this IS going to be a problem with ANY anemone you get. They are MOBILE inverts meaning they will move around to find a place that suits THEIR likes. They will not listen to reason, they do not care if you spend $100 on that nice coral who's spot it wants to take for itself. Each anemone species needs to be researched to find out how they like to live. Some like to have their foot burried in sand, others like to purchase on a hard substrate, some like a lot of current, others prefer less current.

If you try to force it to stay somewhere it doesn't like then it will get serrously stressed out and die. Anemones are very delicate animals that do require a lot of special care. They aren't really the best animals to put in an established reef tank because of their tendancy to move around.

Re: Saddle-back clownfish host?

So far I guess I'm lucky, as the anemone stayed put when I set him in the tank. I sprinkled a little substate on his foot as he gladly accepted it and anchored. He then proceeded to snuggle in and bury his foot deep. He is still there with the clown.
Oh yes, and there is a 250 Watt halide not too far away as well as the VHO.

Thanks ..G

Re: Saddle-back clownfish host?

I know this is an older thread, but I wanted to say thanks for the information regarding the black & white saddleback clowns and the damage they can (and will?) do to an anemone . My mind is made up..I'm going with the black & white false percs, even if they are like puppy dogs. No mobster fish for me.

Well, the saddleback has now moved to a BTA. Go figure.

I have never heard of an elephant disk anemone. Do you have the scientific name so I can look it up. It looks pretty cool.

Re: Saddle-back clownfish host?

Be careful with that, if I am not mistaken, the elephant discs are fish eaters. They will eat clowns too, which is what it appears to be trying in the picture!

No no no. Not a chance. I've had it for many years and it does not eat, other than light and fine particles.

Sorry I do not. It came on a rock by itself a few years back, and rather than multiply and spread it just gets bigger and stays a single entity. I like it. It looks a lot like the mushroom/disc anemonies that proliferate along the back wall of my tank, but it is thinner and biger around, an goes through wierd contortions sometimes. I will see.....
