RO/DI Unit Question

Just recently purchased kent marine 35gpd ro/di unit (maxx) just hooked it up, i have a very slight leak in canister 1 and 2 , i have tightened every possible hole and even adjusted after that. I also tried adjusting the ones that were too tight (sometimes to tight makes it worse) and still have a very slight leak. It doesnt bother me that its leaking, just wondering if this is normal for a home unit?

TIA,

Ken

Re: RO/DI Unit Question

No, it is not normal, you probably have a bad gasket.

Re: RO/DI Unit Question

Nope. Not at all normal. Can you tell where it's leaking from? There are usually tubing and tubing connnectors that connect the various canisters, and it's possible that it's leaking there, and in a place you can't see it. Not common, but it does happen. Did you buy this unit new, or used? IF new, I'd be talking to the seller about it, HOWEVER, you may be able to fix it yourself fairly easily. Could also be a gasket where the canister screws into housing as Boomer mentioned.

Re: RO/DI Unit Question

The leak is coming from canister 1 and 2 where the tubing pipes screw in at the top. I purchased it brand new from Marine Depot. I'll try contacting MD and see what they say until then I'll try to fix the leak.

Thanks Guys

Re: RO/DI Unit Question

OK, looking at the manual for them, http://www.kentmarine.com/instructions/maxxima.pdf
I see they use JACO fittings. Most likely, something VERY simple and easy to fix.
Looking at the drawing in diagram 3, you see the JACO nut, a split compression ring, and a compression collar. Most likely, one of those isn't seated well, or the tube isn't fully inserted into the housing. That would be the first place I'd check...

Re: RO/DI Unit Question

take a good look at the compression ring. make sure they are not split, or in any way damaged. make sure they seat in their "groove" in each canister.
ie nothing in the groove.

Re: RO/DI Unit Question

Ive been playing with this thing for the past 2 days and frankly I shouldnt have to play with anything after purchasing good money for it. I called Kent Marine today and its going back. The unit does work and with great results. I've been using it to make water although I have the leak (the unit is in the garage and partially in a big bucket). I appreciate all who chimed in =)

Re: RO/DI Unit Question

Well we finally got ahold of Kent Marine and they are going to replace the unit. They said it is not normal for it to leak and they were telling us to add plumbers tape, which I decline to do since its a brand new unit. We have been messing with this thing for way to long! They were very helpful and are taking the unit back with no fight =) Thanks everyone that suggested how to fix the leak!
