Unhappy whats wrong

We just got a predator tank a few weeks ago (June 29). It was like the end of the world, DEATH!!! So it as been established for a while but it still hasn't cycled! The nitrite is bright red when tested and our amonia is a little bit off! What is wrong? Why hasn't it cycled? What do you think.....?Thaks lula !

Re: whats wrong

Sounds like you're tank is acting normal. One month really isn't long enough for a tank to mature. It can take some tanks two or three months before it's finished cycling. The best thing you can do is have patience and keep testing.

Re: whats wrong

Did you put anything in to start the cycle? Many people put a piece of shrimp in a net bag to start the process.
Just an idea.

Re: whats wrong

Is there any fish in it ? What size is it ? How much LR do you have ? Was it cured or uncured ? Are you running a skimmer and if so which one ?

Re: whats wrong

If you do a water change it may slow the cycle.. Add some dead shrimp in a net or bottled bacteria from yout LFS and let it cycle..

Re: whats wrong

To answer an earlier question LR is Live Rock. Unfortunately patience is the thing most needed in this hobby. I know since I have none either. Your best bet is just to wait it out since the tank is already stocked. Bottled bacteria may help as will water changes, but with livestock already present you are kind of limited on your options.
Best of luck

Re: whats wrong

you need LR and sand or something that can hold bac i would also recommend getting a protein skimmer. also find a good LFS and sit there and talk for like 2 hours voice your concerns and ask alot of question when i started i when there everyday helped out and asked question for 2 weeks before i buy my first tank it really helped.

Re: whats wrong

What is the status of the tank and inhabitants now?
I was away a few days and don't see an update.
