Exclamation Something I've noticed bout Reef Sanctuary

Is it just me?

I spent some time surfing the other major Reef forums, and I've noticed something different about Reef Sanctuary.

Now... I'm not one to put anyone down... but I also like to give credit where credit is due.

It seems to me that the general atmosphere at Reef Sanctuary is a lot more friendly and supportive than elsewhere.

I have yet to open up a thread here on RS where members have lost respect for each other. I can't tell you how many negative threads that have nothing to do with the original post I've seen on other sites. Maybe it does happen here and the moderators at RS are just more vigilant at weeding them out than on other sites.

Either way... I guess that's the reason I hang out here.

Re: Something I've noticed bout Reef Sanctuary

When Reef Sanctuary was started back in Nov "03" it was decided then that RS would not allow flamming.
We should all be allowed to voice our opinions on subject matter but, without accusing remarks or hurting someone's feelings.
There have been the occassional threads that have gotten out of hand but, that's when we step in and try to redirect the comments.

I think most of us have a genuine respect for each other and realize mistakes will be made. No reason to make a comment negative towards them, what we do is try and move them in the right direction.

Thank you for taking notice! We our very proud of our forum!

Thx JFK, that's ecactly what we've worked very hard to create here. Not just the staff, but the members too.

Nope. While we have an awesome team of mods, they actually have to do a lot less policing here because our members know and respect the "Sanctuary" philosophy.

Thanks for the kind words.

I rarely go elsewhere, except to further a specific search. It's nice to hang (and participate) where you don't have to worry about your back!

Re: Something I've noticed bout Reef Sanctuary

Before finding RS I visited 5-6 reef forums per day, now I visit 2 RS & a local site(that is sometimes questionable). I feel welcome here & feel I can ask any question without feeling like its a dumb one.

Talking Re: Something I've noticed bout Reef Sanctuary

I agree JFK. I am fairly new to the saltwater aquarium hobby (a little over a year) and have certainly made my mistakes along the way. It is nice to know that I can ask questions without feeling like a total dummy here as opposed to other sites.

Re: Something I've noticed bout Reef Sanctuary

I could not agree more JFK...I think there is just a genuine love of the hobby here and members are very considerate of others...I love the philosophy and atmosphere which RS premotes. Everyone wants to help one another and keep them interested in the hobby. Negative comments do not foster this philosophy or do they nurture an interest in reefing. This is one of the greatest things about RS...a genuine love of the hobby and enthusiastic members who REALLY do their best to help and encourage..THIS IS THE WAY IT SHOULD BE....

Re: Something I've noticed bout Reef Sanctuary

Yep, this is a friendly site. One great thing about RS is that even if you share an opinion that differs from the majority, you will not be flamed. Ideas are shared freely and arguments are debated in a civilized manner.

Re: Something I've noticed bout Reef Sanctuary

I think that is why the name "Reef Sanctuary" was chosen originally.

I'm new to the hobby and new to the site, but everyone here immediately made me feel welcome and was glad to help. Once I found this forum, not only did my reef improve tremendously, but I have had the chance to make a lot of new friends and even meet a number of members personally (most at the Balt aquarium) and everybody is just really great.
Now, I try to pass on the good advice I was given, while continuing to improve my knowledge and reef.

Kudos to all at the Sanctuary and particularly to the moderators and staff.

Should be some way we can give karma to RS. (Oh wait, you can become a contributing member if you are not alrady. .
